The Traveling Jain Campaign

Pure Jain Food, Wherever The Journey Takes You

Every year, more travelers choose a Jain Diet — yet finding food that’s truly free of mix-ups, prepared in dedicated kitchens rather than shared stoves, remains a quiet struggle wherever they go.

The Traveling Jain Campaign exists to change that: building a trusted, worldwide guide to Verified Pure Jain Food Infrastructure, from bustling cities to remote mountain trails.

We believe no one should have to choose between their diet and their dreams — whether that dream is climbing a Himalayan peak or simply traveling without anxiety over what’s on their plate.

This is a Campaign built on proof, not persuasion: a decade of extreme expeditions on a strict Jain diet, showing exactly what’s possible.

Traveling Jain Campaign - About Shashank Shah
The Person Behind It

Shashank Shah

Mumbai-born, mountain-bound. Shashank took his first trek in 2009 and never quite came back down — a decade later, he holds Basic, Advanced Mountaineering certifications along with an Instructor Certification from ABVIMAS, Manali, and has completed many treks & trips, that changed him.

Somewhere between the summits, a camera found its way into his hands, turning every trail into a frame worth capturing — a passion that grew into Freezed Frames, his photography venture.

But here’s the part that makes this journey different: Shashank treks & climbs on a strict Jain diet — no onion, no garlic, no root vegetables, no exceptions, even above 15,000 feet. That daily discipline is exactly what sparked this Mission: making it easier for fellow travellers following a Jain-diet to explore the world without compromising their faith.

The Story Behind The Mission

One Sentence From My Guru Changed Everything

On 30th December, 2012, Shashank heard these words from his Enlightened Spiritual Master, Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji, that reshaped his life: “તું નિગોદમાં પણ જઈ શકે છે — you too can go into Nigod.”

Meaning – “You too can be born as a Nigod lifeform.” In Jain philosophy, root and bulb vegetables like potato, onion, garlic, carrot, radish, etc. are considered Nigod lifeforms. That single sentence became the seed of everything that followed.

Shashank resolved instantly to give up all root vegetables and other foods forbidden in Jainism, including fig, brinjal (never consumed in life), sabudana (sago), honey (never consumed in life), etc. It wasn’t easy. Jain food awareness barely existed in trekking or mountaineering circles back then, and through 2013-2015, he had to eat non-Jain meals (only during expeditions, mountaineering courses) out of necessity, always with quiet and deep regret.

The turning point came in 2016 on a trek to Har-ki-Dun, where Jain food was finally available on trail — planting the real roots of this Campaign. In 2022, at Everest Base Camp, he announced his intention to build something bigger. The Mission found its name during the 2024 Warwan Valley trek, and in 2025, from the summit of Pin Parvati Pass trek, Shashank officially launched the Traveling Jain Campaign — making Jain food accessible for every trekker – traveler – adventurer who refuses to compromise faith for passion.
